First48

There is nothing more special than falling in love with your baby for the first time — wouldn’t it be incredible to have these memories documented to remember forever? The First 48 newborn session does just that. I come to your hospital room, or to your home if you give birth outside the hospital, in the first two days after birth to capture those first moments with baby getting to know her/his new family.  First 48 sessions usually take 1-3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding and comforting, and the gallery includes at least 30 edited images.

First 48 sessions are available at an all-inclusive rate for clients who have booked a newborn portrait or lifestyle newborn session. The all-inclusive session price includes a DVD of the digital images. There is very limited availability for these sessions due to their “on-call” nature, but I absolutely love them! There is truly nothing else like those first days with your baby, and it is always an honor to document them.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE A FIRST 48 SESSION WHEN I DON’T KNOW WHEN MY BABY WILL BE BORN?

When you book, I will make a note of your due date to make sure I maintain availability on my calendar. Toward the end of your pregnancy, we keep in touch by email or text so you can let me know if there are any new developments such as a scheduled induction date. If your birth is not scheduled, just text me when you know you are in labor so that I can begin to make child care arrangements if necessary. Then after baby arrives, let me know, and we will set a time for the session. Depending on the time of day baby was born, sometimes parents prefer to have me come in the second day so they have a bit more time to recover, shower, etc.

WHY WOULD I WANT TO BE IN PICTURES RIGHT AFTER GIVING BIRTH? I WON’T BE LOOKING MY BEST.

I totally understand your hesitation — I remember not feeling presentable after giving birth. It is a tumultuous time with lots of hormones and emotions. But I can tell you that the pictures you will receive from the session will still be very precious. We tend to be self-conscious about the way we look in pictures, but in these images, parents most comment on the bond that is captured between new baby and mom/dad. Also, I promise that I always shoot and crop images in the most flattering way possible for moms! But honestly, the joy and love that emanate from First 48 session images renders all else unimportant. You will never regret having these memories in print!

I DIDN’T DO THIS WITH MY FIRST BABY/BABIES… SO WHY NOW?

I get this question A LOT. I can tell you from my own experience, that every child is special, but this is where tailoring our sessions comes in handy. Together we can make this session about your family unit meeting the new baby, the siblings’ excitement, how much your little one missed you during your hospital stay, and less about this specific birth. I will help to narrow the focus of our shoot and capture some incredible memories in the process! Even if you didn’t have a session like this the first time around, these are still special tims and moments that you won’t want to miss.
